The Top 25 CFOs of San Francisco for 2023

Finance and Investing is pleased to announce The Top 25 CFOs of San Francisco for 2023. Dubbed as “The Golden Gate City,” San Francisco is usually known for its rich and diverse history, landmarks, and colorful neighborhoods. But its robust technology sector also comprises some of the largest technology companies in the world, boasting famous venture capital firms, a thriving startup scene, and a hub for other prominent industries, including finance, tourism, and media production. Many of our award recipients hold executive finance positions at companies such as QuantumScape, Discord, Springboard, Quora, and TaskRabbit, contributing to the economic growth of not only San Francisco, but of California and the U.S. as well.

Among this year’s awardee is Warren Jenson, the President, Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Managing Director of International at LiveRamp. He was recently recognized for his visionary leadership by Institutional Investor Magazine, naming him one of the Top CFOs in America. Awardee Charles Bracher, Chief Financial Officer of Grocery Outlet, oversaw the company’s successful $435 million IPO. Also awarded is Lisa Pantages, Chief Financial Officer of San Francisco Giants, who has spent 19 seasons with the organization.

1. Kevin Hettrich
Chief Financial Officer, QuantumScape

Kevin Hettrich is the Chief Financial Officer of QuantumScape. Hettrich has served as QuantumScape’s CFO and Head of Business Operations since September 2018. Prior to this, he served as QuantumScape’s Vice President of Business Operations, Senior Director of Finance and Product Management, Director of Product Management, and Manager of Product Management.

Before joining QuantumScape, Hettrich was a Private Equity Associate at Bain Capital, an investment firm. Before this, he served as a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company. Hettrich has a master's degree in environment and resources from Stanford University, an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Pomona College.

 

2. Marc Suidan
Chief Financial Officer, Beachbody

Marc Suidan is the Chief Financial Officer of Beachbody. He leads all aspects of finance, including setting long-term goals, strategies, and plans to drive shareholder value creation. He also sets accounting policies and processes to manage and measure the company's financial results.

Suidan has more than 25 years of experience in finance. Most recently, he was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he led the global tech, media, and telecom M&A practice. Prior to that, he led the PwC Silicon Valley consulting practice. He has advised over 150 deals with values exceeding $250 billion. Before PwC, Suidan was a McKinsey’s Technology Accelerator practice member. As an advocate of community services and volunteer for youth education, he currently sits on the Board of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation and leads its Innovation Committee. Suidan has an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Management in accounting and finance from McGill University.

 

3. Warren Jenson
President, CFO & Executive Managing Director of International, LiveRamp

Warren Jenson is the President, Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Managing Director of International at LiveRamp. LiveRamp is an SaaS company that provides an identity platform for powering exceptional experiences.

He was formerly the CFO and Executive Vice President at Acxiom and was responsible for all aspects of the company’s financial management and the Company’s business operations outside the U.S. Prior to joining Acxiom in 2012, he served as COO at Silver Spring Networks, and before that he was the CFO at Electronic Arts Inc. He has been recognized for his visionary leadership by Institutional Investor magazine, having been named one of the Top CFOs in America. He has served as CFO of Amazon.com, Delta Air Lines, and NBC. He has also held several positions as part of the General Electric Company. His board experience includes DigitalOcean, Cardtronics, Tapjoy, BYU Marriott School, and the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. Jensen has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in accountancy, both from Brigham Young University.

 

4. Charles Bracher
Chief Financial Officer, Grocery Outlet

Charles Bracher is the Chief Financial Officer of Grocery Outlet. He first joined the company in 2012. During his tenure at Grocery Outlet, Bracher has contributed to a number of significant strategic, operational, and financial accomplishments, including overseeing an expansion from 184 to 380 stores. Other accomplishments include Bracher overseeing the company’s successful $435 million IPO, which was oversubscribed 22X with the highest file-vs-offer price of all time for a U.S. discount retailer IPO.

Previously, Bracher was a CFO at Bare Escentuals. Prior to that, he worked in finance roles at The Gymboree Corporation and Arnold Palmer Golf Management. He began his career in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York and San Francisco. Bracher has a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley.

 

5. Shobhna Asthana
Chief Financial Officer, Shaklee

Shobhna Asthana serves as Shaklee's Chief Financial Officer. She has over twenty years of experience in various finance and accounting functions. Before joining Shaklee, she held executive leadership positions across leading technology companies in Silicon Valley, including Lucent Technologies, Yahoo, and Pericom Semiconductor. She focused on topline revenue growth and bottom-line cost savings. Her skills include building world-class teams globally for scalable growth, change management, process, and infrastructure reengineering, and implementing corrective actions. Asthana has an MBA from San Jose State University and a bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, and chemistry from Punjab University.

 

6. Tomasz Marcinkowski
Chief Financial Officer, Discord

Tomasz Marcinkowski is the Chief Financial Officer of Discord. He utilizes his extensive expertise in growing, scaling, and advising leading internet companies to lead Discord’s financial operations and support its continued growth.

Before joining Discord, he spent the last five years as Head of Finance for Pinterest, helping to lead the company’s finance operations during a time of rapid growth. Before that, he served as Vice President of Technology Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs for almost a decade, advising a broad range of clients such as Square, Yahoo!, Yelp, and more. Marcinkowski graduated from the University of Chicago with an undergraduate degree in economics.

 

7. Ryan Fong
Chief Financial Officer, Springboard

Ryan Fong is the Chief Financial Officer of Springboard. He first joined the company in 2021. Fong brings nearly two decades of experience as a strategist, operator, and finance leader across a diverse range of organizations and ed tech companies. He’s tasked with helping to enable continued rapid expansion and growth of the core Springboard business while scaling its operational and financial infrastructure and enabling the company to invest toward future growth.

Previously, Fong was a VP of finance at Q Bio. Before that, a VP of finance and business operations at Udacity. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior associate with Diamond Management and Technology Consultant. Fong earned an MBA from Northwestern University-Kellogg School of Management and an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of California Berkeley.

 

8. Dennis Cinelli
Chief Financial Officer, Scale AI

Dennis Cinelli is the Chief Financial Officer of Scale AI. He’s tasked with helping the team deliver on its vision of building and scaling the enterprise by accelerating the adoption of AI. Previously, he was at Uber, where he served as Vice President and Head of Mobility for the U.S. and Canada. Prior to that, he served as VP and Global Head of Strategic Finance, supporting Uber’s 2019 IPO and leading the global finance teams for all Uber businesses. He’s also a former Board Member at Lime. Before this, he was a CFO at GE Ventures. Earlier in his career, he worked with Webtrafix.com as a founder. Cinelli graduated from the University of Maryland with an undergraduate degree in finance.

 

9. Sam Wolff
Chief Financial Officer, Domestika

Sam Wolff is the Chief Financial Officer of Domestika. Domestika is the fastest-growing creative community where the best creative experts share their knowledge and skills through professionally produced online courses.

Previously, Wolff was the CFO at Singular, Vera Security, Birst, and BlueKai. Before this he was the Vice President of Finance at Yahoo and the Director of Accounting at Vail Resorts. He first got his start in 1997 as a Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Wolff graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with an MBA in finance and a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University.

 

11. Ravi Narula
Chief Financial Officer, FinancialForce

Ravi Narula is the Chief Financial Officer for FinancialForce. He develops and manages strategies to expand the business and accelerate revenue, overseeing finance, IT, information security, facilities, and real estate.

Narula has spent the last 20 years helping to transform technology startups into large and mature public companies. Before joining FinancialForce, Narula was CFO at Ooma Inc.. He helped drive the company’s IPO, raised private and institutional money, played an instrumental role in growing the business domestically and internationally, improved gross margins, and created operational efficiencies. Previously, Narula served as Chief Accounting Officer at Gigamon Inc and CFO at BigBand Networks Inc. Earlier in his career, he held finance leadership roles at Borland Software and Deloitte & Touché. Narula has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Garhwal in India.

 

12. Johnathan Carr
Chief Financial Officer, Armis

Jonathan Carr is a seasoned executive in the enterprise and consumer technology industry with experiences building finance organizations and delivering high-impact results at rapidly scaling startups and Fortune 500 companies. He currently serves as the CFO for Armis. Armis offers the markets leading asset intelligence platform designed to address the new threat landscape that connected devices create.

With extensive experience in partnering with investors, boards, executive teams, and business leaders to drive financial and strategic performance, Jonathan has developed a robust skillset in executive leadership, building and scaling growth oriented organizations, influential communications, strategic and financial planning, lender and investor relations, equity and debt financing, M&A, and business operations. He previously served as the Head of Corporate FP&A at Atlassian. Jonathan graduated from California State Polytechnic University-Pomona with an undergraduate degree in finance.

 

13. Tony Grimminck
Chief Financial Officer, Scribd

Tony Grimminck is the Chief Financial Officer of Scribd, a subscription-based service that offers users access to the world’s largest digital library of ebooks, audiobooks, sheet music, news articles, magazines, podcasts, documents, and presentations. Tony has a wide range of experience in finance, business strategy, and operations at online consumer-focused companies helping bridge the gap from idea to execution and in growing companies to scale. He was previously the Chief Financial Officer of HotelTonight, held several senior roles at StubHub, and was a Vice President of Investment banking at Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan. Before moving to the United States, Tony was an officer in the Australian Army. He has a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

 

14. Jeff Bohl
Chief Financial Officer, Ontra

Jeff is the Chief Financial Officer of Ontra. Prior to Ontra, Jeff was a Managing Director at H.I.G. Capital in San Francisco. Earlier, Jeff worked in technology investment banking at J.P. Morgan and product management at Salesforce.com. Jeff holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and undergraduate degrees in business and psychology from the University of Colorado. Outside of work, Jeff enjoys skiing, mountain biking, live music, photography, and spending time with his wife and two boys.

 

15. Dave Weil
Chief Financial Officer, A+ Apparel

Dave Weil currently serves as both the Chief Financial Officer and the President of School Apparel, Inc., the largest manufacturer of school uniforms in the U.S. He oversees all its financial activities, as well as its domestic manufacturing and worldwide sourcing.

Dave has a very diverse background. Prior to joining School Apparel, he was involved in business aviation and food manufacturing, and is a CPA (inactive). He previously served as CFO and Executive VP for TAG Aviation, the premier aircraft management company in the U.S. He played a key role in helping TAG grow from $40M to $400M in gross billings. He continues to provide business aviation consulting to a select number of clients. Prior to TAG, he was VP of Finance for Fantasia Confections, a leading manufacturer of fine pastries and desserts. Dave earned his CPA while working for Ernst & Young. He received both his MBA and undergraduate economics degree from UCLA.

 

16. Lee Hansen
CFO & Chief Administrative Officer, Uphold Ltd.

Lee Hansen is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of Uphold. Hansen is a proven financial leader and experienced executive, having been a successful entrepreneur and executive in large public companies. Since he joined Uphold in 2019, the business has grown its revenue from $12 million to over $250 million and increased its workforce from 95 to more than 300 employees.

Prior to Uphold, Hansen was the Co-Founder of Meriturn Partners, a firm focused on advising and acquiring middle-market underperforming companies. He is a certified turnaround professional (CTP) and was on the board of the Turnaround Management Association. Before this, Hansen was the President and CFO of Net Value Holdings. He oversaw this investment firm's public listing and $1 billion market cap. Previously, Hansen was in the Office of the Chairman at Bank of America as SVP of Strategy and Corporate Development and headed global corporate development for the Commercial and Investment banking group. He started his career in the Investment Banking Groups at Bankers Trust (now Deutsche Bank U.S.). Hansen earned an MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University and a BS in business administration from Bucknell University.

 

17. Saurabh Sinha
Chief Financial Officer, Aeva

Saurabh Sinha is the Chief Financial Officer of Aeva. Sinha has served as Aeva’s Chief Financial Officer since 2020. Prior to joining Aeva, Sinha was the Chief Accounting Officer of JUUL Labs and served as its interim Chief Financial Officer in 2020. Prior to JUUL Labs, he held various finance leadership roles at InvenSense Inc., a motion sensors company. Sinha received his MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Delhi.

 

18. Nipun Soni
CFO, BillionToOne

Nipun Soni is currently the Chief Financial Officer for BillionToOne, a high-growth VC-backed company providing precision molecular diagnostics. He has over 20 years of finance, accounting, and operations experience with multinational companies in the healthcare and technology sector. He has raised money in public and private markets, been involved in over 40 M&A transactions, and is adept at building high-performing teams to support rapidly growing businesses.

Prior to joining BillionToOne, Soni served as the SVP of Finance at Guardant Health from July 2019 to March 2021. He led various fundraising efforts and helped scale the finance organization for a growing public company. Between 2009 to 2019, he held various senior finance leadership positions with multinational public companies, including Quotient Technology, KLA Corporation, and Oracle Corporation. Earlier in his career, Soni worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers serving clients in both public and private sectors. He has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Delhi University, India. He is a CFA Charterholder, Certified Public Accountant licensed in California, and a Chartered Accountant from India.

 

19. Brian Depolo
Chief Financial Officer, Hart Howerton

Brian Depolo is the Chief Financial Officer of Hart Howerton, an award-winning global design firm headquartered in New York and San Francisco. Depolo has helped lead the firm for the past 21 years overseeing finance, accounting, tax, HR, IT, DT, and office management. Last year he led the firm’s transition to becoming a certified BCorp and helped achieve a WELL Health-Safety Rating, along with leading the firm’s ISO and DEI initiatives.

Prior to joining Hart Howerton, he was the CFO of Cardstore.com and was a Senior Vice President at Sony. He started his career at Ernst & Young. Depolo graduated from the University of the Pacific's Eberhardt School of Business.

 

20. Amy Ainsworth
CFO, DeWinter Group

Amy Ainsworth is the Chief Financial Officer of the DeWinter Group, which provides world-class accounting, finance, and technology recruiting services.

Ainsworth started her career in accounting and finance at one of the big four firms. She went on to serve in multiple management roles in various industries, including as the Corporate Controller at CallidusCloud (which was later acquired by SAP) and Senior Accounting Manager at Tiny Prints (which was later acquired by Shutterfly). Ainsworth is a Founding Member of Chief, the only organization specifically designed for senior women leaders to strengthen their leadership journey, cross-pollinate ideas across industries, and effect change from the top down. She graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

 

21. Alan Stewart
CFO, ShotSpotter

Alan Stewart serves as the Chief Financial Officer for ShotSpotter, Inc. He was hired in 2017 to lead the company’s IPO process. His tenured experience, which spans over 25 years in private finance, mergers and acquisitions advisory, and advisory board and director services, places him as one of the leading executives at ShotSpotter, Inc.

Prior to ShotSpotter, Stewart served as a Managing Director of RA Capital, LLC, and as CEO of FIT Advisors, LLC. Stewart was selected as CFO of the Year in San Diego in both 2007 and 2013 in the large private company category. He was also selected as BNY Mellon’s 2017 Advisor of the Year in San Diego in the Deal Facilitator Greater than $25M category. He was one of three finalists as the Bay Area CFO of the Year in 2021 in the Emerging Company category. Stewart is a Director for Round Feather, Inc. and Ravenswood Solutions, Inc. and an advisor for Calidi Biotherapeutics, Inc. Stewart received his MBA in finance at Harvard Business School and a BS degree from the United States Naval Academy.

 

22. John Botros
CFO, Resilience Cyber Insurance

John Botros is the Chief Financial Officer of Resilience Cyber Insurance. Botros has over ten years of experience as an executive leading finance and strategy for technology-based companies.

Prior to Resilience, he was the CFO of Incorta, a data analytics company, where he raised $150M in equity and debt capital while helping scale the organization. Botros has executed the acquisition and integration of multiple private companies, led pre-IPO diligence and preparation, and consulted on several M&A transactions. His focus has been on scaling high-growth organizations and aligning products with the appropriate go-to-marked motions to maximize shareholder value, as well as employee retention and satisfaction. Botros has an MBA from San Jose State University and a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology from the University of California Santa Barbara.

 

23. Helen Hsu
Chief Financial Officer, Pocket Gems

Helen Hsu is the Chief Financial Officer at Pocket Gems, a mobile games developer. She is responsible for delivering financial insights that drive revenue growth and managing operational processes that support Pocket Gems’ game teams. After starting her career as an auditor and consultant at PwC, Hsu transitioned into roles in product management and marketing in Silicon Valley to broaden her business experience. Prior to Pocket Gems, she was the Vice President of Finance at XOJET. Hsu earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree in business economics from UCLA, where she graduated summa cum laude.

 

24. Leticia Parises
Chief Financial Officer, Collins Electrical Company

Leticia Parises is the Chief Financial Officer of Collins Electrical Company, a well-known company, recognized by ENR as the California Top 2022 Specialty Contractor in 2022. Leticia has a demonstrated history of working in the construction industry with over 20 years of experience. As the CFO, she oversees the company’s accounting and financial strategies by leading the accounting and payroll departments and managing the banking and bonding relations. Parises joined the Collins Electrical Company, Inc. family, a growing electrical and solar company, in 1999 as a payroll administrator.

Parises has an MBA from Morehead State University in Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in accounting degree from CSU.

 

25. Paul Coccovillo
Chief Financial Officer, Rhombus

Paul Coccovillo is the CFO of Rhombus Systems, Inc., a next-generation video security company that is working on blending A.I. and machine learning to advance the field of safety. Coccovillo has over 20 years of finance experience and progressive leadership positions throughout the tech industry in Silicon Valley, having previously worked at four other start-ups. He joined Rhombus Systems in 2021.

Before joining Rhombus Systems, Coccovillo was with Unicorn companies such as Oculus VR, and Juul Labs and held roles at Meta and Microsoft. Coccovillo has an undergraduate degree in accountancy from Bentley University and an MBA in corporate finance from California State University, Sacramento.
